Services

What Jeff does.

No job is beneath Jeff's attention. No problem is past his ability to solve. If you've been told it can't be done, call him first.

Panel Upgrades & Service Upgrades

Old panels run hot, trip constantly, or quietly fail inspection when you go to sell. Jeff replaces them clean — coordinated with PG&E, permitted, sized for what your house actually pulls now.

Rewiring

Knob-and-tube, aluminum, mystery splices in the attic from 1978. Full or partial rewires done without tearing the house apart more than necessary.

Solar System Wiring

The DC and AC side of solar — inverters, disconnects, interconnection, battery backup. Most general electricians refer this work out. Jeff doesn't.

Hot Tub & Pool Electrical

GFCI-protected 240V circuits, bonding done right, panel capacity verified before the tub shows up. The kind of job where shortcuts kill people.

Water Well Systems

Pump controls, pressure switches, and the long buried runs out to the wellhead. Standard on rural Nevada County parcels and routinely declined by shop electricians who don't want to leave town.

Breaker & Fuse Repair

A breaker that keeps tripping is telling you something. Jeff finds the actual fault, not the symptom, and fixes it.

Failed Switches & Outlets

Dead outlets, scorched receptacles, three-way switches that have never worked since the remodel. Same-day when scheduling allows. No job too small.

Commercial Electrical

Lighting retrofits, tenant improvements, parking lot circuits. Includes the full LED conversion completed for Sierra Business Council under their rebate program — interior and exterior, building and lot.

"Most electricians stop where it gets complicated.
That's where I get interested."

He came back from the Bay Area with a license, an apprenticeship, and the habit of doing it right the first time.

About

Where Jeff
learned this.

Jeff McEvoy trained in San Francisco and Marin County, where electrical inspectors are some of the toughest in California. The standard there isn't "it works." The standard is that it passes the second time someone looks at it, ten years later.

He apprenticed for two years with Artistic Lighting and Electrical. His first major job out of that apprenticeship was a 50,000 square foot rammed-earth residence — at the time, the second largest private home under construction in America. Hundreds of miles of wire. Every wiring method and control system the code allowed. The project took years.

He brought that training back to Nevada County in 2003 and opened McEvoy Electric in Penn Valley.

Since then he's built the kind of reputation a small county pays attention to. Solar systems. Well pumps. Hot tubs. Old farmhouses with four generations of wiring stacked on top of each other. The jobs other electricians look at, quote high, and hope you go away.

Jeff doesn't quote high to make you go away.

Reviews

What the work
looks like.

Replace with real review

"Three electricians told us the well pump situation was somebody else's problem. Jeff pulled up, looked at it, and had us running by the end of the next day. He's the only one I call now."

— Karen, Rough & Ready

"We bought a 1940s place in Nevada City with knob-and-tube in half the walls and a panel held together with hope. Jeff rewired the whole house in stages so we didn't have to move out. Permits, inspections, all of it clean."

— Mark, Nevada City (full rewire)

Replace with real review

"Our hot tub install got declined twice by other electricians because of where the panel was. Jeff figured out a route, pulled the permit, and it passed inspection on the first walk-through."

— Diane, Lake Wildwood
